Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly on Tuesday morning issued a state of disaster emergency for flooded areas in the Sunflower State. According to a news release, Kelly issued a โverbal state of disaster emergencyโ at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday for flooded areas in north-central and south-central regions of Kansas. The declaraton allows resources to be used to provide state assistance in those areas.
โHeavy rains and flooding impacted several counties yesterday and we will do what we can to support those counties,โ Kelly said in the news release. โDo not drive into standing water, just 12 inches of rushing can carry away most cars. Turn around, donโt drown.โ The Kansas Division of Emergency Management has partially activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka to monitor flood activity, assist counties with their potential needs and coordinate state resources.
