The Wichita Fire Department says a home east of downtown Wichita is unlivable after a fire early Wednesday morning. It happened around 3:45 a.m. in the 100 block of South Minneapolis, near Douglas Ave.
Cpt. Casey Hauschild says firefighters arrived on scene and found flames and smoke coming from the roof of a house. Firefighters tried to enter the home, but had to exit the house and battle the fire from the outside because the flames were so intense.
Once they were able to enter, firefighters did not find any victims. They say it took some time to get the fire under control. At this time, they do not know if anyone lived in the house. Hauschild says investigators will remain on scene this morning working to determine a cause.
