Fire destroys house in Pottawatomie County

An early-morning fire on Tuesday destroyed a house in Pottawatomie County. The blaze was reported around 3:25 a.m. Tuesday at a single-story residence at 15938 Mandy Lane. The location was about a mile west of Louisville, and was about two miles northwest of Wamego. Pottawatomie County Fire Supervisor Jared Barnes said the home’s occupants were able to make it outside safely before crews arrived on the scene.

Barnes said first-arriving crews found “quite a bit” of fire involvement at the residence, with most of it in the attic area. The fire quickly breached the living area of the house, forcing firefighters outside the residence. At that point, crews took a defensive approach in fighting the fire. As heavy flames began to engulf the house, it began to collapse, Barnes said.

The house was a “complete loss,” Barnes said. Several area fire departments responded with crews to battle the blaze. The Louisville Fire Department was the lead agency in the blaze, though the Wamego Fire Department was first on the scene. The St. George Fire Department also responded to the scene.
