Emergency crews respond to Coffeyville ammonia leak, multiple people hospitalized

Emergency crews respond to a reported ammonia leak at the CVR Nitrogen Plant in Coffeyville, and transported multiple people to the hospital. According to radio station KGGF, initial reports indicate at least 15 people exposed to hazardous conditions received medical attention this afternoon. The incident was reported around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Emergency crews from the area, including Coffeyville, Independence, Caney, Tyro, and Cherryvale, were all on scene to assist with the response. KGGF also reports that multiple helicopters were present to transport individuals in need of medical attention.

KGGF also tells us that because the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center is full, patients are being taken to Independence. No word yet on the extent of injuries or what may have caused the leak.

Montgomery County Sheriff Ron Wade acknowledged the incident in a Facebook post, saying that they are “grateful for the swift response and dedication of all area fire, EMS, Police, and Deputies who assisted during this difficult time,” and wishes a “full and speedy recovery to everyone who was injured.”
