VIDEO: Crews were still on the scene Monday night in Hutchinson, cleaning up after a train derailment near K-61. Union Pacific says the derailment happened around 1:00 a.m. when two dozen of its rail cars went off the tracks. Around that time, people living on the street behind where it happened say they heard a loud thud and the scrape of metal.
The railroad did not confirm what’s inside, but vehicles were visible where the rail cars were split open and you could actually see the contents. One woman with four of the cars on her property says it’s been hard to get a response from Union Pacific about the plan for removal.
