Firefighters rescued a woman early Tuesday morning after a kitchen caught fire at an apartment building in Overland Park. The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Corbin Greens Apartments on Russell Street near Lamar Avenue on the south side of the city, according to a news release from the Overland Park Fire Department.
Crews from the Overland Park and Leawood fire departments reported seeing fire in a kitchen on the second floor of the three-story building with alarms going off and residents evacuating. Firefighters carried one woman from the second floor. She was taken to a hospital with moderate smoke inhalation, the fire department said. No other injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to one unit and was extinguished in about 10 minutes. The fire department said a sprinkler system at the apartment helped keep the fire in check, and all other residents were able to return to the remaining units. The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday, but the fire department added that it was believed to be a cooking fire.
