Two cats were rescued after an apartment fire on Sunday in Independence. Independence Fire responded to the 1600 block of 2nd Street SW for reports of a fire with a woman potentially still inside. Crews quickly went into the apartment to search for her, but she was not home. Firefighters were able to safely rescue two cats from the apartment. The fire caused significant fire and smoke damage, mainly in the bathroom area. The Independence Fire Department says they believe the cause is electrical in nature.
