Firefighters were sent to a Sioux City residence on Friday morning for a fire on Sioux Cityโs north side. According to fire officials, the call came in around 6 a.m. at a home at 1709 Summit Street. The home was occupied when the fire started, but everyone was able to evacuate without injury. No firefighters were injured as well.
Lt. John Nelsen with Sioux City Fire Rescue says the fire started on the front porch, and a next-door neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home. According to Lt. Nelsen, when the neighbor went to investigate, he noticed the side of the home burning and called 911. The neighbor reportedly tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.
Six engines were sent to the home, and firefighters were able to get the flames under control in under an hour. The house sustained damage that could be seen from the exterior, but Lt. Nelsen says the building has not been red-tagged. The Red Cross was called to help the family living in the home. Six engines were on the scene, and firefighters were able to get the fire under control in under an hour. The cause is under investigation.
