A fire broke out early Monday at a structure on East Main Street in New Hampton. The New Hampton Fire Department responded to the scene at about 1:50 am. Firefighters say they encountered heavy smoke and flames throughout the building. While the residents escaped unharmed, two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the firefighting efforts. The Iowa State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
