House fire on Des Moines’ southwest side reignites hours after initial response

A house that caught fire following reports of explosions Tuesday afternoon reignited several hours later. Fire crews first responded to a home in the 2400 block of Watrous Avenue at around 1 p.m. According to the Des Moines Police Department, witnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing smoke coming from the home.

Watrous Avenue from SW 26th Street to Wakonda Drive was shut down while firefighters worked to put out the flames. No injuries were reported at the time. During the evening hours Tuesday, the fire reignited and the home was engulfed in flames. In a video sent to WHO 13 by Scott Ingvaldson, flames can be seen shooting out of the home as well as sparks.
