George Firefighters Extinguish Flames Northwest Of Town

The George Fire Department was called out on Sunday, September 28, 2025. According to George Fire Chief Bill Sprock, at about 3:50 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a grove fire approaching buildings at 3131 180th Street, three miles north and three west of George, or two miles east of Edna.

The chief says the fire department saw a burning tree pile as they approached the scene. He says those on the place had burned some trees that had fallen a few days ago, and the fire rekindled in the wind and was headed for the grove. He says only one live tree was burned, and even that damage was only to the tree’s leaves.

Sprock says no injuries were reported. Chief Sprock reports that the George Emergency Medical Service or “GEMS” also responded. He says the firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
