Fire in Dubuque displaces families, no injuries reported

A fire early Sunday morning in Dubuque forced the evacuation of residents and their pets, but no injuries were reported. The Dubuque Fire Department responded quickly, arriving just four minutes after receiving a call about a deck fire in the 1700 block of South Grandview Avenue at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, which had spread from the deck to a parapet wall and the flat roof system. According to Dubuque Fire officials, the apartments sustained only light smoke damage. The estimated cost of damage to the building is around $60,000. The Red Cross is assisting two families from the building with temporary housing. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
