Family displaced after fire damages Creston home

PHOTOS: A Creston family was displaced after a fire damaged their home Thursday afternoon, according to the Creston Fire Department. Firefighters responded to a house on fire on North Chestnut Street in Creston around 3:53 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, firefighters saw flames coming through the windows.

All residents had exited the home when crews arrived. Officials said they began a “transitional attack” by hosing down the outside of the house before going inside. Creston FD said the attack turned the fire from a “rapidly escalating, high-heat stage” back to something more manageable.

Crews opened walls and ceilings to check for hot spots through the afternoon. The Union County Emergency Management was on scene to provide additional services to the displaced family. Officials said the cause of the fire is unknown.
