Update: Northeastern Morgan County house fire ruled arson

An early Sunday house fire in a northeastern Morgan County subdivision was an arson, the Morgan County Sheriffโ€™s Office said in a news release issued Tuesday afternoon.

The fire happened around 4 a.m. Sunday in the 13000 block of North Cardonia Drive. Thatโ€™s in The Enclave subdivision, which has a rural Camby address and is about 2 miles east of Mooresville.

The fire damaged four homes and three vehicles. News 8 first reported on the fire on Sunday night.

Investigators reviewed a video from a neighborโ€™s home surveillance system that captured the start of the fire, leading them to believe the fire was intentionally set. The perpetrator may have sustained burn injuries while igniting the fire, according to investigators.

โ€œWhile the motive remains unclear, we know that at least one person is involved and they may have had accomplices,โ€ said the news release from sheriffโ€™s Cpl. Zachary Dodson.

The release said the incident was targeted and isolated, posing no threat to the general public.

Sheriffโ€™s detectives from Morgan County, fire investigators from Madison Township Fire Department, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ar e involved in the case.
