Morgan County officers save 2 men from burning home in Martinsville

What was supposed to be a simple arrest turned into a rescue mission for three Morgan County officers early Sunday morning after they spotted a fire at a nearby home in Martinsville. The Morgan County Sheriffโ€™s Office says the fire broke out sometime around 3 a.m. Sunday.

The three officers, two Morgan County Sheriffโ€™s Office deputies and one Martinsville police officer, were in the area of Schwab Drive in a mobile home community when they spotted a fire on nearby Meredith Place. The officers rushed to the home and saw flames rising from the residence.

One deputy grabbed a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and worked to put out the fire. Though the deputy extinguished the flames on the outside, the sheriffโ€™s office said he soon noticed fire on the inside.

While the deputy extinguished the blaze, the two other officers raced inside, navigating heavy smoke as they looked for any residents.
