Late Clay Fire Marshal Dave Cherrone honored at St. Joe County Council meeting

VIDEO: Another major point of Tuesday night’s St. Joseph County Council meeting was former Clay Fire Marshal Dave Cherrone, who passed away in August. He was the longest-ever serving member on the fire department and his death was sudden and unexpected.

Councilmember Amy Drake says Cherrone was cherished, and even after retirement he often came back to the fire department to spend time with his Clay Fire family. Several of the firefighters showed up to the meeting to honor him, along with his immediate family, and hear about how he impacted the community from Councilmember Drake.

“David Cherrone embodied Clay Fire’s mission: to help others,” Drake said. “Through the work he did to keep St. Joseph County residents safe from harm, whether through his work through the township’s first EMT, the fire programs he instituted, the noon segments he aired or the kids safety house and children’s library sessions he brought to the community.“ The resolution to honor him passed unanimously.
