Indianapolis house fire draws large response from firefighters

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Dozens of firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a house fire on the near north side of Indianapolis. According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched around 5:40 a.m. to the 2900 block of North Delaware Street.

Thatโ€™s near 30th and Meridian streets south of Meridian Park. Video and images from the scene showed intense fire and heavy smoke in the area. Multiple units and firefighters responded.

The fire originated in an unoccupied two-story residence, according to IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith. The fire spread to two nearby homes; the families inside those homes were able to safety evacuate.

While no one lived at the home where the fire started, someone was getting ready to move into the residence. The utilities were not switched on, according to IFD. Reith said crews struggled with hot spots that continued to reignite.
