Indianapolis FD rescues kayaker from White River on city’s south side

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Crews rescued a kayaker who was stranded in the White River of the south side of Indianapolis Sunday night. In a Facebook post, IFD indicated that one of its water rescue teams was dispatched to a portion of the White River located near the intersection of Sandhurst Drive and Newhart Street around 9:48 p.m.

Soon after they arrived at the scene, crews rescued a woman who had been clinging to a tree branch for more than half an hour. Upon speaking with the womanโ€™s family, IFD crews learned the kayaker and her family had been on the water since 1 p.m. The womanโ€™s kayak flipped and left her stranded along the White River around 8:30 p.m.
