VIDEO: First responders have been called to a structure fire on Wells St., just north of downtown Fort Wayne. Dispatch confirmed on Sunday morning that a structure fire broke out in the attic of a house on the 1600 block of Wells St. at 7:18 a.m.
Dispatch received several calls reporting a house on fire, and the Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived on scene at 7:22 a.m. WANE 15 reporters observed smoke emanating from the top floor of the home, with around six fire engines and six police vehicles at the scene, who worked to extinguish the fire. According to a press release, after the fire was extinguished at 7:40 a.m., the building was searched, and no one was occupying the home, as the house was under renovation.
The fire caused heavy damage to the house, but no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by Fort Wayne Allen County Communications, TRAA, Fort Wayne Police, Neighborhood Code Enforcement, NIPSCO, and AEP.
