Hoarding situation makes Evansville house fire hard to fight, EFD says

VIDEO: Crews were called to fight a house fire Monday morning in Evansville. Dispatchers say it was first called in at 7:24 a.m. at a home in the 1000 block of Harriet Street.

The intersection of Read and Missouri Streets were blocked for fire equipment. Fire officials say theyโ€™ve had trouble fighting the fire because of a hoarding situation. Fire officials say they had to use a defensive attack and fight the flames from the outside.

โ€œWe try to conduct a search, we were unable to because of the hoarding conditions and the volume of fire we had,โ€ says Captain Keith Bowden. โ€œWe fought the fire, about a half hour inside, we pulled all companies out, went defensive, called in for extra trucks and we are just using chainsaws trying to get to the hidden fire.โ€

The homes on that street are close, and the fire did spread to a neighboring home. Those flames were put out quickly. Nobody was inside at the time and nobody was hurt.
