VIDEO/PHOTOS: No one was injured after two structure fires in St. Joseph County on Saturday night. The first was a barn fire in Lakeville near the intersection of New Road and Dixie Highway. The first calls came in around 10:30 p.m., prompting responses from firefighters in Lakeville, Madison Township, Centre Township, Lapaz, North Liberty, Polk Township, and the St. Joe County Fire Territory.
According to the Madison Township Fire Department, Truck 61 was successfully used to knock down a bulk of the fire; however, the hose lines were having a limited effect due to the building’s construction, size, and the volume of fire throughout. The fire was also made more difficult due to freezing temperatures, and all water to fight the fire had to be brought in by tankers.
The second fire was at a home on Sly Fox Court, just northwest of the South Bend International Airport. Calls came in shortly after 11:30 p.m., and crews had it under control around an hour later with no injuries reported.
St. Joseph County Fire posted on Facebook, reminding drivers to watch for emergency vehicles and personel in the roads, and drive cautiously, especially with the winter weather making roads icy.
