Fire Damages Apartment Building in South Bend

VIDEO: Fire officials say a South Bend apartment building suffered โ€œsignificant water damageโ€ after a fire late Sunday night. It happened around 11:45 p.m. at The Jefferson Apartments (formerly known as Prosper Apartments and Park Jefferson Apartments). Officials say smoke was coming from the roof of a building on Rue Rabelais Drive.

When they entered the building, they found a fire burning in the attic. Officials say the entire building was evacuated, and power was shut off with assistance from on-site maintenance.

Firefighters contained the fire to the attic in less than an hour, but officials say part of the building sustained significant water damage. Several families were relocated to other units in the complex.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
