PHOTOS: Authorities responded to a reported diesel fuel spill in Hendricks County on Wednesday afternoon that caused a significant traffic backup. The Fire Department of Liberty Township said its units responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a report of a chemical spill in the area of S. State Road 39 at E. County Road 1000 S.
Units arrived on the scene and located a tractor-trailer with a ruptured fuel tank, which caused all lanes of the highway to shut down. Crews managed to successfully contain the spill and prevent contamination of a nearby body of water.
The incident resulted in around 100 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled. The Plainfield Fire Territory, Brownsburg Fire Territory, Indiana State Police and Hendricks County Sheriffโs Office also assisted at the scene as crews removed the disabled vehicle and cleared the roadway for traffic to continue moving.
