Carmel Fire Department hosts Movember event for men’s health awareness

VIDEO: The Carmel Fire Department is hosting its third annual Movember event starting November 1st, aimed at raising awareness for testicular cancer, prostate cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The event includes a press conference and a fundraising effort where flags are placed around a well-known roundabout in Carmel for every $5 donated.

The funds raised will support Building a Refuge, a mental health charity that provides resources for men. “Movember has been such a popular event because it’s raised this awareness,” said Tim Griffin, the Public Information Officer for the Carmel Fire Department.

Renee Butts, the Public Education Officer for the Carmel Fire Department, emphasized the importance of advocating for men’s health, noting that men often neglect their health. The Movember event encourages men to grow facial hair as part of the awareness campaign, with the mustache being a significant symbol of the movement.

Participants, including firefighters, will wear Movember shirts and even decorate frontline equipment with mustaches.
