33-year-old man dead, Speedway firefighter hospitalized after head-on crash near Bloomington

VIDEO: State police are investigating after a fatal car crash near Bloomington early Saturday morning. Indiana State Police said troopers from the Bloomington District responded to a head-on crash on Interstate 69 northbound near the Sample Road interchange, north of Bloomington, around 6 a.m. Oct. 25.

According to the preliminary investigation, ISP said Johnathan Clark, 33, of Nashville, was driving a 2016 blue Jeep Wrangler southbound in the northbound lane of I-69 when he hit a 2011 blue GMC Sierra pickup truck that was heading northbound on I-69.

Both vehicles stopped at the median, police said, where the Jeep became “inverted” and caught fire. Police said the driver of the pickup truck, Solomon Rynard, was taken to IU Health Bloomington for “serious injuries.”

Rynard is a Speedway firefighter. Mike Loviscek, Speedway Fire Department PIO, said Rynard is expected to make a full recovery in three to four months.

“He is a great guy and a great firefighter,” Loviscek told 13News. “[Rynard and his family] appreciate all the support and outpouring of prayers and well wishes.”
