VIDEO: Last month, Beatrice Davidson was rescued from a fire at her Roseland apartment. On Monday, she paid an emotional visit to say thank you to the Chicago firefighters who saved her life. Davidson, with her voice cracking and tears welling up in her eyes, hugged each and every member of the Chicago Fire Department’s Tower Ladder 24.
It was that fire crew that responded when flames erupted in her three-flat apartment building on Calumet Avenue a little more than a month ago. According to the firefighters, the fire spread quickly and trapped her inside.
“Her kitchen was fully involved in fire and there was heavy smoke going up the back stairwell where we encountered her,” Lt. Charles Iglinski said. Brandon Hampton, a firefighter-paramedic with Tower Ladder 24, said the unit found Davidson unconscious, pulled her from the fire, and when they checked her pulse, “she was still breathing.”
