VIDEO: The search for Rockford’s next fire chief heats up as five finalists step forward, each with distinct backgrounds, leadership philosophies and ties to the community. The Fire and Police Commission received 14 applications; seven from inside the Rockford Fire Department and seven from outside. After reviewing resumes, commissioners narrowed the pool to five candidates.
Commissioner Rudy Valdez says the decision was about identifying leaders who could handle the demands of the job. “It’s a leadership position. We want to make sure that we have someone that understands what’s happening, the history behind the department, what has and what hasn’t worked,” said Valdez.
