Urbana mobile home damaged by fire

PHOTO: Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire in Urbana. The fire happened at 106 Dewey Street. Edge-Scott Fire Protection District Chief Steve Thuney said the Urbana Fire Department was the first agency to respond, and they arrived to find flames burning through the west side of the roof. The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes, but the damage is severe enough that the two residents are displaced.

The American Red Cross is assisting them, and family members told WCIA the residents will be living with them for the time being. Thuney added that while some property is salvageable, smoke and water damage might render the mobile home a total loss.

The initial investigation indicated the fire was accidental. Thuney said one of the residents fell asleep while cooking oil. Everyone got out safely, however.
