Two displaced after Springfield apartment fire

VIDEO: Two people were displaced from their Springfield apartment after a fire over the weekend. The fire happened at Park Tower Apartments on Williams Boulevard.

Fire Marshal Todd Taylor told WCIA that firefighters were dispatched at 7:41 p.m. and they arrived two minutes later to find smoke coming from an apartment on the fifth and highest floor of one of the buildings. Taylor added that a woman was leaning out of a window, screaming for help, when they arrived. Firefighters lifted an aerial ladder to attempt a rescue, but she was able to get out of the apartment on her own. He also said the fire consisted of several pieces of furniture on fire, but the fire didn’t spread beyond the apartment it started in. He credited the apartment’s occupants with isolating the burning furniture from other flammable sources and the sprinkler system in the hallway for preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
