Two displaced after Springfield apartment fire

VIDEO: Two people were displaced from their Springfield apartment after a fire over the weekend. The fire happened at Park Tower Apartments on Williams Boulevard.

Fire Marshal Todd Taylor told WCIA that firefighters were dispatched at 7:41 p.m. and they arrived two minutes later to find smoke coming from an apartment on the fifth and highest floor of one of the buildings. Taylor added that a woman was leaning out of a window, screaming for help, when they arrived. Firefighters lifted an aerial ladder to attempt a rescue, but she was able to get out of the apartment on her own. He also said the fire consisted of several pieces of furniture on fire, but the fire didnโ€™t spread beyond the apartment it started in. He credited the apartmentโ€™s occupants with isolating the burning furniture from other flammable sources and the sprinkler system in the hallway for preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
