VIDEO/PHOTOS: An explosion in Edwards County, Illinois injures three workers with Dee Drilling Company, according to the Edwards County Sheriffโs Office. Officials with Edwards County Dispatch say they got a call about the explosion around 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
The fire also forced the closure of Illinois Route 130 between Grayville and Albion. Grayville Police Chief Mason Siegel was one of the first to arrive on the scene. โI could see just a giant wall of black smoke coming up the trees, immediately let dispatch know, Iโm like, โHey, weโre going to need more units, like, this is going to be more than just a little fireโ,โ recalls Siegel. โI get a little closer, and I can see the flames just licking above the trees, probably 60 feet up in the air.โ
Officials on scene say an oil well caught fire, causing major injuries to three people. Those injured in the explosion were airlifted to receive medical care. A firefighter was reported to have been overcome by the high heat and humidity, though the extent of their injury was not given. The cause of the explosion has not yet been released.
