The Springfield Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to the 800 block of Enterprise Street for a residential structure fire at 9:48 a.m. on November 30th. Initial arriving units found a multiple story residence that had been converted into several apartments with smoke showing and reports of multiple trapped occupants. SFD crews initiated a ladder rescue for the occupant on the second floor and rescued two trapped occupants from the first floor.
The occupant on the second floor hanging from a window was rescued in two minutes. All survivors were evaluated on scene and refused additional care or transport to the hospital.
Due to the number of trapped occupants, the on-scene Incident Commander upgraded the alarm for additional units. Simultaneously to the rescue efforts, SFD crews quickly contained the fire and extinguished the fire as it was beginning to spread throughout the structure.
