Six fire departments respond to Rantoul house fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Rantoul Fire Department responded to an abandoned house engulfed in flames Friday night. At approximately 8 p.m., the Rantoul Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire at 2951 County Road 1900 E. As of 10:29 p.m., the fire was put out, but the department said it would continue to smolder for some time. According to Rantoul Fire Chief Chad Smith, a homeowner was burning brush, and it got out of control catching the nearby abandoned home on fire. No injuries were reported on scene and the abandoned home has been considered a total loss. The department has asked people to stay away from the structure for their own safety.

On scene, the Rantoul Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies:

  • Sangamon Valley Fire Protection District
  • St. Joe Fire Protection District
