The Sesser Fire Protection District is honoring the memory of Firefighter James “Shib” Glenn Miller, who died in the line of duty 18 years ago. On July 27, 2007, the fire protection district said Miller lost his life while responding to a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 57.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within 15 minutes and set up a safe working zone with fire engines and a rescue truck. The Sesser Fire Protection District said Miller was struck and killed by a bus which failed to slow down and move into the left lane as firefighters were clearing the scene. He was reportedly loading hose into Engine 101’s driver’s side storage compartment when the incident took place. The Sesser Fire Protection District extends prayers to the Miller family as they remember his sacrifice.
