A police officer was injured and residents were displaced after an overnight fire early Monday morning sent heavy flames out of a house in Mundelein, authorities said. The Mundelein Fire Department and Mundelein Police Department responded around 3:18 a.m. Monday to the 500 block of Shady Lane in Mundelein for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters were still responding when dispatchers reported there was an active fire at the rear of a single-family home, fire officials said. Firefighters arrived within four minutes and found heavy flames coming from the rear of the structure. Six people were home at the time of the fire and all of them were able to self-evacuate. Fire officials said firefighters made an aggressive defensive attack by rapidly extinguishing a majority of the fire from the outside. Firefighters then conducted an interior search on both floors of the home and extinguished the remaining fire.
