VIDEO: The Peoria Fire Department celebrated a big milestone in safety within the city on Tuesday morning at the Central Station. As part of the โBe Alarmed!โ Smoke Alarm Installation Program, the fire department was commended by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Camp I Am Me (CIAM) with a plaque for installing 1,000 smoke alarms over the last two years the program has been around.
Peoria is only the fifth fire department in the state of Illinois to install 1,000 smoke alarms through the initiative.
โThe Peoria Fire Department has been doing a tremendous job within their community, not only installing smoke alarms, but working with their community risk reduction team to identify other aspects, too, to help eliminate or reduce injuries within the community,โ said Phil Zaleski, executive director of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.
The process to install a smoke detector includes eligible Peoria residents filling out a form and checking the box of what appliance or accessory they need, including smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, along with detector batteries.
