Normal Fire Department honors fallen chiefs with new safety house dedication

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Normal Fire Department gathered Tuesday morning at Fire Station Three in Normal to dedicate their Survive Alive house, teaching fire safety to children.

โ€œWeโ€™re gathered today to rededicate the house in memory of Chief Cermack and Chief Smalley, both of whom passed away last year. Part of their vision was public education when they served with the town of Normal. Weโ€™re here to just dedicate this house in their memory,โ€ said Chad Pacey, president of the Normal Firefighters Local 2442.

Chief Cermack and Smalley both died in 2024, less than a month away from each other. Their families felt they needed to do something to continue their visions. New signs were put on the house in honor of the fallen Chiefs.
