VIDEO: The Canton Fire Department investigators have deemed that a large fire in the cityโs downtown area was accidental. After an on-scene investigation, review of security video and interviews, it was determined the blaze was a result of an unattended open flame, said Ed Glad, a Canton fire spokesman. At 11:36 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, crews responded to the fire at the Odds and Ends resale shop on White Court.
Other agencies, including Pekin, Buckheart and Havana, arrived to help the cityโs firefighters with aerial trucks. Glad said all surrounding buildings were evacuated and traffic was closed off in the area while the fire scene was being checked for hot spots.
