House Fire Displaces Family of Seven in Crete

A family of seven, including three young children, was displaced after a house fire broke out Sunday morning in the village of Crete, prompting a large multi-agency emergency response and a call for community aid.

According to the Crete Police Department, the fire occurred early Sunday and left four adults and three children temporarily homeless. No injuries have been reported, but the family is in need of immediate assistance. The American Red Cross and local fire crews are working to secure temporary housing and resources. Emergency personnel from multiple departments—including Crete Township, University Park, South Chicago Heights, Steger, and Beecher—responded to the blaze, along with Crete Emergency Management Agency, according to a Facebook post from Mabas27. Photos show smoke and fire damage to the upper floor of the residence, with crews working to extinguish flames from the exterior.
