Joliet Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Batusich announced that Sunday evening’s fire in the Plainfield area took about 90 minutes to extinguish. The fire happened around 5 p.m. in the 1700 block of Great Falls Drive, and one person was asleep inside, officials said.
One of the neighbors began banging on their front door, alerting the homeowner to the fire. The Joliet Fire Department battalion chief said the porch was on fire at the two-story house, and company 10 arrived within three minutes of the call. Firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear structure. The fire spread inside the structure attic and crews performed an interior attack on the second floor. The house sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
