VIDEO: Rock Island County agencies responded to a fire Sunday morning in Milan. After arriving in the 800 block of W. 13th Street, crews found fire coming out of a first-floor window.
The Blackhawk Fire Protection District said a very large accumulation of personal items” within the home impeded firefighters’ ability to extinguish the flames. The inside of the home was found to be unsafe, so responders removed exterior windows to reach and put out the fire.
BFPF said one person was home at the time of the fire and evacuated. They were evaluated at the scene and released. No firefighters were injured. The Blackhawk Fire Investigation Division determined the fire to be accidental, caused by cooking equipment being used too close to combustibles.
The Coyne Center Fire Protection District, Coal Valley Fire Protection District, Coal Valley Air 24, Andalusia Fire Protection District and MidAmerican Energy assisted at the scene.
