Firefighter suffers medical emergency on the scene of a Peoria fire

Peoria fire crews responded to a fire call early Thursday morning on W. Nowland Avenue, near N. Broadway Street. Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney says crews arrived just before 3:45 a.m., finding a two-story home on fire, with flames extending from the first floor to the second floor.

A search determined the home was vacant at the time of the fire. One firefighter experienced a medical emergency at the scene. They were taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for evaluation.

A fire investigator has not determined the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $110,000.
