VIDEO: Firefighters responded to a building fire in the 4100 block of 14th Avenue in Rock Island Friday morning. The fire broke out in a large, vacant mixed-use building near Alleman High School. The structure had formerly housed offices on the first floor and apartments above.
Rock Island Deputy Fire Chief Greg Marty said crews found heavy fire in the rear and roof of the building, with additional fire on the second floor. Marty confirmed the building was vacant and no victims were found inside. According to Marty, the fire was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the fire marshal. Responding agencies included Rock Island Fire, Moline Fire, and Rock Island Arsenal Fire. The 4100 block of 14th Avenue was closed but has since reopened.
