Explosion at Chicago’s North Side park ignites safety concerns

VIDEO: A North Side resident says a sudden explosion shook her street with so much force that her entire house rattled. The incident occurred just after noon on Tuesday in Legion Park, located in the 3100 block of West Peterson Avenue.

The source of the explosion is believed to be a propane tank, allegedly lit by someone living in a tent on park property. Firefighters quickly responded to the area and extinguished the blaze.

There were no injuries reported. Residents who live adjacent to the park say theyโ€™ve been sounding the alarm about encampment fires for a while, and now those fears have become reality.

โ€œI was at home, and I heard a giant explosion. My house felt vibratey, like I could feel the presence of the flames,โ€ the resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said.
