Evanston Deputy Fire Chief Muno to retire after 39 years of service

The Evanston Fire Department proudly announces the upcoming retirement of Deputy Chief William Muno, effective Nov. 21 after an extraordinary 39-year career serving the residents of Evanston.

Muno joined the Evanston Fire Department on Aug. 18, 1986. His commitment to public service, steady leadership and deep dedication to the community propelled him through the ranks: Muno was promoted to captain on Aug. 19, 1996, promoted to shift chief on Feb. 27, 2012 and finally promoted to deputy chief on May 10, 2021.

Over nearly four decades, Muno has become a trusted leader and a pillar within the department. Known for his tireless work ethic and unwavering loyalty, he has continually gone above and beyond, including countless hours spent off-duty, to improve department operations, and enhance service delivery for the Evanston community.
