Effingham FD responds to contractor having medical emergency on roof

A contractor working on the roof of a store in Effingham suffered a medical emergency Friday afternoon. According to Effingham Fire Chief Brant Yochum, the department responded to the report of a medical emergency involving a worker on the roof of the Kohlโ€™s stored located at 1600 Ford Avenue. Upon arrival, crews determined the injured person was a contracted worker performing work on the roof.

Effingham Fire Department personnel utilized the departmentโ€™s platform ladder truck to safely access the roof and remove the patient. The contractor was successfully brought to ground level by Effingham firefighters and was transferred to Rural Med EMS for transport.

The patient was later transported to HSHS St. Anthonyโ€™s Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. This incident remains under review by the โ€œappropriate parties,โ€ Chief Yochum said.
