East Peoria Firefighters Remembered at 39th annual memorial service

VIDEO: The East Peoria Fire Department honored the memory of four fallen firefighters during its 39th Annual Firefighter Memorial Service.

The solemn tradition is dedicated to those who lost their lives protecting the community paid tribute to:

  • Assistant Chief Marvin J. Stein – January 28, 1959
  • Firefighter George E. Cornwell Sr. – January 28, 1959
  • Captain Armando E. Ballerini – June 12, 1972
  • Firefighter William A. Folmar – September 27, 1980

Family members, firefighters, and community leaders gathered to reflect on the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of these men. Fire Chief Bobby Zimmerman said the service is a way to ensure their legacy endures for generations.

“So they’re never forgotten,” Zimmerman said. “They paid the ultimate sacrifice serving their community. And the least that we can do is remember them for that sacrifice.”

The department plans to continue holding the memorial service each year to honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of East Peoria’s fallen firefighters.
