Dog dies, firefighter sent to hospital in pair of Clinton fires

VIDEO: Twelve fire departments responded to two fires in Clinton on Monday, one of which left a dog dead and sent a firefighter to the hospital. On Oct. 27 around 3:07 p.m., Clinton firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of E Adams Street for the report of a fire in an attached garage.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a one and a half story wooden house with an attached one-car garage and โ€œheavy fire conditions.โ€ As a result, Clinton firefighters struck a second alarm for more help at the scene.

Bystanders told firefighters that all civilians had exited the home, but a dog was still inside. Firefighters on the scene were able to suppress the fire and began a search inside the home for the dog.

They eventually found the dog, but said it had died from smoke inhalation. The home suffered severe damage in the fire and is now uninhabitable, the department said. One firefighter had to be taken to a hospital with chest pain.
