VIDEO: A fire early Monday morning left six people looking for a place to stay. Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Hwy., the DeKalb Fire Department was called for reports of a fire.
Neighbors called 911 after hearing smoke alarms. First responders smelled smoke from outside the apartments. They found heat and smoke conditions throughout the apartment and found a fire in the kitchen, which was quickly extinguished. None of the occupants were home at the time of the fire. The apartment was deemed uninhabitable, displacing the six residents. According to the DeKalb Fire Department, all six of the residents have been relocated with relatives. The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental. No injuries have been reported. The DeKalb Fire Department reminds the public of cooking and fire safety.
