VIDEO: A family of five cannot return home after a fire damaged their house Monday afternoon. Just before 1 p.m. August 4, DeKalb Fire Department was called to a house in the 100 block of Cotton Avenue.
Officials say smoke and fire was visible when they arrived, and the fire extended into the interior and attic space of the home. Sycamore, Genoa Kingston, Cortland and Malta fire departments were called to assist. No injuries were reported, and the family was safely outside by the time first responders arrived, reports say. An estimated $76,000 in damage from fire and smoke is reported, causing the home to be considered uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
