VIDEO: The Decatur Fire Department is on pace to get more than 15,000 calls this year; the most it has ever recorded. The department said most of these calls are medical calls to go to the emergency room, since Decatur Fire has to respond for ambulance services.
However, Decatur Fire Chief Neil Elder said certain measures could prevent potential overwhelming of law enforcement and first responders in the future. โI think community education would help,โ Elder said. โJust knowing when to call 911, when to go to the emergency room, or when to go to an urgent care center rather than going to the emergency room calling 911.โ Until then, the chief said his firefighters will continue to serve the Decatur community.
